Kazuyuki Kishino is a cult name in experimental rock and extreme electronics who found notoriety and worldwide attention as mastermind, singer and guitarist of progressive hardcore trio Zeni Geva after having been in noise rock bands YBO² and Absolut Null Punkt. In the mid 80s he founded the label Nux Organisation, working with bands like Melt Banana, releasing his solo material (as Null and KK NULL), and producing the Dead Tech series of compilations that heralded the Japanese alternate music boom.
A prolific recording artist with over 100 albums to his name, countless collaborations, and a visceral sonic presence like few others – KK NULL is a living legend and formidable artist.
After playing the guitar as his main instrument for nearly thirty years, KK NULL has gradually moved towards a more electronic approach. Since the late 90s he has concentrated his efforts on his solo & collaborative recordings, exploring the outer territories of electronica, creating intense clashing wave of noise, structured electro-acoustic ambience, broken down rhythmics, scattered pitch sculptures, droning isolationist material which could be described “cosmic noise maximal/minimalism”.
These days he mostly states the “nullsonic” as his primary instrument. Nullsonic is something of a variation of Robert Fripp‘s 1970’s instrument “frippertronics” – a combination of electric guitar and effects units, which elevated the effects to equal importance alongside the guitar. Null has gone even further by discarding the guitar altogether and making all the sounds with effects only.
