Featured Guest
SNKLS is the work of Romain Dessert. Over the last few years Romain has established himself as a singular figure in the contemporary electronic scene there and in Europe, exploring territories of sound from electronic bass music to musique concrete.
It’s via the label POLAAR that I first heard his sound, quickly thinking to myself, what is this? I like it. A feeling that was solidifed when I heard a live set of his last year for Rinse FM sister station Rinse France. POLAAR is headed up by Flore, who guested a few years back on Mantis Radio 316.
In 2022 SNKLS released the EP Glu River, for the Polish label Outlines. It marked him as a name to follow.
Romain is driven by a demanding approach to sound and forward thinking club rhythm, something he develops through a monthly show called Take Me Higher for Hong Kong Community Radio station, now in it’s 7th season.
His session for Mantis can be considered a radical and immersive live set, where the pulse of the Hardcore Continnum meets music concrete with unpredictable glitch textures.
Recorded live on a Elektron Octatrack, and a Makenoise Strega, the session takes in music from reggae classics, Oklou, Ramadanman, Offa, French-Congolese singer Théodora, Richard D James, 700 Bliss, and New Jersery’s Ase Manual.
