Schmidt & Chrome – Eclipse on Maschinen Musik
Germany’s Maschinen Musik gets back in the game with this four tracker Eclipse from label head Dr Schmidt and label veteran Chrome.
Serving up two original pieces of synth rich electro with remixes from long time label affiliated T.R.O. and making his label debut; bass heavyweight Blackmass Plastics.
Title track and opener Eclipse is a sharp breathy widescreen piece of strong electro. Berlin’s T.R.O. works this up into more of a dark breakstep roller with a deeper lower synth styling. Murky.
The other original piece by the duo is E.B.M. and brings to the table the familiar and pretty much trademark of Dr. Schmidt’s vocoded voices. With other producers this so often ends up being cheesy or so ridiculous you love it a la Miami Bass and Ghettotech respectively. In Schmidt’s hands it finds the right balance. On studio remix duties; Blackmass hits buttons for the fourth and final track. Playing with the pitch of the electronic body movement sample bringing in his heavy step and big sub; it’s still electro but it’s still got that Blackmass swing to it.
Released digitally next month on October 1st.
