Ex-Easter Island Head – Large Electric Ensemble

A few month ago I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of Mallet Guitars Three by Ex-Easter Island Head, an album that immediately grabbed my attention and was written about in these very pages.

They have now returned en-masse with Large Electric Ensemble,  a sound that that has expanded to 11 guitars and drums. Whilst this hasn’t increased the noise of the band as such  it has lent itself to a much richer texture.

I’d previously mentioned that Mallet Guitars had a Philip Glass like quality but the feel this time is of a band reflecting on some of the themes of Krautrock – albeit in a slower and more restrained manner. Like, they are really exploring the repetition and searching out what may hide in the spaces afforded by a slower tempo.
