episode 129
We kick this show open with some boppy Aphex Twin from his Syro era. Before getting into some nice headspace sonics with Luke Slater’s ambient-IDM project 7th Plain. A deep bonus track from Swiss industrial dons The Young Gods. The space rock psych of Norwegian trio Kánaán. And the lush etherealness of the 4AD project This Mortal Coil.
We’ve Afrobeat from Shangaan Disco pioneers Obed Ngobeni & The Kurhula Sisters. Mali’s Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba. Plus, the prolific producer Adrian Younge, who imagines how a mid 70s Ghanaian producer might make American disco.
There’s two back to back cuts from Death Grips. A banger from Paul Woolford’s Special Request. Jeff Mills’ project The Paradox with French keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary. And beautiful brand new music from Japanese composer Midori Hirano – from a commissioned soundtrack for a 1990 Icelandic arthouse film starring Björk that recasts the patriarch tropes of a Brothers Grimm story.
There’s classic Smashing Pumpkins. Corscian male singing group A Filetta. The perfect slide guitar of Portland’s country folk group Rose City Band. Composer John Zorn. And more music from Norway – this time Hans P. Kjorstad who straddles a line between folk, jazz, and free improv.
Heading to the end, beautiful melodic percussive tech from Spanish producers Orbe and Pysk. The Latin alternative rock of Brazilian musician Totonho . And seeing us out, the mighty brothers Hartnoll with a track from Orbital’s 5th album The Middle Of Nowhere.
Have yourself a wonderful day. Thanks for listening.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
