Episode 68
February 20, 2025
Today’s show is a special edition, showcasing fantastic female artists. And we start with the ambient sound of Amsterdam’s Elisa Batt featuring German vocalist Jenny Thiele. Asher White covers Jessica Pratt on her new record. There’s brand new and forthcoming Hannah Peel, with Chinese percussionist Beibei Wang. A cut from Maria BC’s beautiful new indie folk record Marathon. Two cuts from last year’s essential jazz compilation Women In Jazz. The folk rock of Laura Marling. And the epic flamenco channelling alternative pop of ROSALÍA.
But, there’s more. Including brand new Jill Scott, and a track from her new record, her first in over a decade. The Queens – Dolly Parton, and Annie Lennox. Chappell Roan. Of course. The Welsh/Cornish dancer turned musician Gwenno remixes Sun’s Signature – the recent(ish) project from Cocteau Twin’s Liz Frazer and percussionist Damien Reece.
The k-pop titans BLACKPINK have recently dropped a new EP, yes, I’m playing a track from it. You’ll either love it, or question why you listen to my shows.
Also, the Liverpool born, Glasgow based KAVARI and her crunchy drum & bass slabs. Australian guitarist Bonnie Mercer. Kathleen Hanna’s Le Tigre, and Bikini Kill, cause you gotta. Supporting that, more punk energy from Amyl and The Sniffers and Cheap Perfume.
You’ll hear a classic bop along track from M.I.A., and hear about my late appreciation ffor Natalie Imbruglia. And, the excellent listener pick Shilpa Ray.
In the final part of the show, two covers. One of Radiohead, and another of Bobby Caldwell. Anna Ferrer transforms a traditional Armenian bread-making song into a contemporary choral anthem. And Ana De Llor, the London based, Lisbon born artist delivers with her debut track from 2020, a war hymn beaten into life by Portuguese frame drums, brooding bass lines and an unapologetic and unyielding choir of women.
And to close, two drum & bass cuts. The first with British soul musician Natalie Duncan, and the second from gyrofield.
Plenty to dig into this week, enjoy.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
