We get straight into it this week, with the Egyptian jazz of Salah Ragab and the Cairo Jazz Band, recorded in the early 70s. From there, the microhouse tribal sound of Isolée, and The Knife’s Olof Dreijer. You’ll hear the supreme voice of Tibetan singer-songwriter Yungchen Lhamo, and a brand new track from the former front man of The Correspondents, Mr Bruce, ahead of his debut album dropping in May.

Two tracks back to back from the label AD93. The first, the experimental dub perfection of Holy Tongue meets Shackleton, and the second, a breaky pop song by james K.

We travel to Uganda for the Afro pop of Iryn Namubiru. And to Ghana for the brand new banger from Genesis Owusu. There’s percussion flexing from Djrum, and the Brazilian dio Deafkids. They’ve a new record coming soon, and I play the first single from it.

Hear another track from Shy One’s brand new – and excellent – record Mali. Plus two of Chicago’s house music producers – Eris Drew, and Cajmere. There’s a brand new track by Max Cooper, and it’s classic Max, all melodic electronics.

You’ve late 50s era Miles Davis, with an absolutely stacked list of players. Father John Misty gets a remix courtesy of The Haxan Cloak. The Dandy Warhols cover gothic rock dons The Cult. And I finally rediscover an old metal record from my past that I struggled to find remember only the cover art.

Oh yea, and to close, new music from Welsh band Mclusky – who are back recording again. Who knew. And a classic from Squarepusher from that golden year for UK electronica, 1997.

Have a great day.
Mx.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.

The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
