March 19, 2026
American jazz pianist and arranger Mary Lou Williams greets you this morning with a beautiful piece from 1964. It’s followed by a new piece by Gregory Uhlmann, and the ambient noodle of Danny Scott Lane.
There’s early Fever Ray. Brand new Mitski. And Algerian Berber singer, songwriter and guitarist Souad Massi. Plus, a track by The Tim Smyth Trio from last year. The early 80s new wave sound of The Pretenders. And a cut from Annie Hogan’s new record Tongues In My Head.
You’ve some truly excellent Jazz, from Sonny Rollins, Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins, and Max Roach. As well as Oliver Nelson, Bill Evans, Eric Dolphy, Paul Chambers, and Freddie Hubbard. Truly spoilt. If you like late 50s early 60s Jazz of course.
There’s the early 80s boogie sound of Raw Silk. Four Tet. And brand new music by Shy One, Jill Scott, OSees, and the incredible Spanish born, London based Clara Serra López.
Hear the hypnotic minimal jazz of Akusmi. Gorillaz and Sparks. And a wedge of 90s guitars from Tad, Fugazi, Hole, and Tool. Plus, a jazz flex from the new forthcoming Squarepusher record. And, to close, the sound of Nigeria in 1974 by way of Monomono.
A bright show for a bright and sunny day.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
