Earlier this year, Canadian producer and sound artist Timothy Gowdy released, via the excellent label Montreal based label Constellation, his new album Trill Scan. It’s a wonderful listen and has quickly become one of my favourite records of the last few months.

Releasing immersive ambient tech sound since 2018 has T. Gowdy, on this new record, his 3rd LP for the label, he draws on his background in medieval choral music and classical guitar.

In a recent interview with Juno Daily he talks about his background and the inspiration behind and process of his latest album.

This album has taken some time (by my standards). The recording process really began before I knew it began in a church with a small ensemble of singers in rural Quebec where I was recording feedback and vocals together for a grant. Then a few years later, I began playing pretty obsolete lute music composed by French lutenists of the 1600’s. At this time the idea of combining unlike forms formed. I didn’t think it would work but I just kept making tracks in my studio. In terms of state of mind, I would generalize to say that my mental state has been focussed on self transformation.

Those earlier LPs, Therapy With Colour (2020), and Miracles (2022) are methodical explorations of psychoacoustic analogue electronics. Further to his music productions, he has worked as engineer for the likes of SUUNS, Ada Lea, and Ensemble.
