David Meiser – Uncompromising Sound EP

Released last week on reliable techno specialists Cicuta Netlabel is an EP from name to watch David Meiser.

Regular listeners to our Mantis Radio show will already be familiar with the Spaniard’s take on the genre – indeed we have his début solo EP Those Who Still Remain forthcoming on our own Darkfloor Sound in November. Until then and a worthy introduction to his sound, if you’re new to it, is Uncompromising Sound – composed of 3 originals and 3 remixes from RRKS, The Outlier and label bosses Drugstore.

Meiser has a hard hypnotic, almost tribal feel to a lot of his work and the first few seconds of EP opener and title track Uncompromising Sound, will have you locked into the mechanised drive quicker than you can say warehouse. Our pick is Inner Flight – twinkling shimmer against driving percussion. The great remix by Drugstore introduces a broken rhythm and is further into the dark – retaining the captivating feel of the original and Meiser’s work in general.

Also of note is fellow Spaniard The Outlier’s remix of DNA. Again, a broken rhythm, more so than Drugstore’s. It’s my favourite of the remixes. It really lets the melodic elements shine whilst being much tougher than the original’s wonderful starlight groove.
