Episode 120
May 21, 2026
I start with the proggy breakbeat of Way Out West, and the Indonesian psychedelic funk, Melayu traditions, disco grooves of Charif Megarbane and Ali. Before the dream like indie rock of newcomers Georgian. There’s some early Trentemøller, and something brand new from Rone’s forthcoming new record next month, recorded at sea, just off Brittany, that channels the sound and spirit of humpback whales.
Another new artist follows, that being the sound of the young Texan Alex Amen whose indie folk and country sound is deeply pleasing. Hear the Swimming Song, by Canadian sisters Kate & Anna McGarrigle. And the jazz flexing of drummer Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
I play another track from that new Speedy J record, you could say I like the album. You could. And you should.
We get lost in the Canadian trio Cobblestone Jazz, and revisita bit of an ear worm from 2006. You’ll hear a Gwen Guthrie penned track by the band Freeland. And the darkwave synths of French producer PERTURBATOR.
British producer Ashee channels Mr Oizo, before I play from the new Nathan Fake record.
You’ll hear a bonus track from the one album psych/punk/hard rock LA band Fraction. Recorded back in 1970/71. And the beautiful sound of Sufjan Stevens & Lowell Brams.
In our final part of the show this week, the sublime sound of Laura Misch, whose new album drops in a few weeks. And marking it’s 40th anniversary, Peter Gabriel’s So.
We’ve another jazz flex, this time a recording from 1953 featuring heavyweights Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Max Roach, and Bud Powell. Bollywood and Hindi cinema legend Asha Bhosle. And to close out the show, an early jungle cut by Reinforced Records, and a pre Doc Scott, Scott.
As ever a huge thank you my live crew.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
