December 19, 2024

This week’s show is lightly dusted with some festive tracks, but just a few. Mostly, it’s business as usual.

From Busta Rhymes to Vince Guaraldi. Caribou to Tony Bennett. From Low, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and The Knife’s Olof Dreijer. Through to the delicious dub flavours of Eek-A-Mouse, Kokoroko, and Christoph El Truento. Kate Bush. Of course. James Ruskin on Tresor. Some house cuts from Or:la’s debut LP, Loidis, and Dee-Lite. The soundsystem crunch of DJ Scotch Bonnet. Polish Bossa Nova, yes really. 1950s jazz guitar. Frankie Goes To Hollywood. J-pop’s Perfume. Stoner rock from Cali. Johnny Cash. Cocteau Twins, and to close – a favourite version of Lennie De Ice’s hardcore anthem.

However you spend next week – be it in full festive mode, or avoiding the whole thing, bunkered down with a good book or boxset – be kind to yourself, rest, and reach out to your loved ones. It’s been an absolute pleasure to broadcast this show to you this year. Expect more next year.

2025 will mark the return of Mantis Radio – for the reasons above it sort of fell out of regular production sometime in May. There will be new music from Darkfloor Sound too.

Massive love out to you. Thank you for listening.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.

The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
