We open this week’s show with the sound of a duo from Chicago called BCMC, and a track from their forthcoming second album. That’s followed by some Sly & Robbie, reworking a Horace Andy classic cut.
Dip your toes into some Detroit house from Andrés, and the lofi house of the London based producer Molinaro. Before playing a wonderful remix by Berlin’s Fadi Mohem of Bristol’s Peverelist.
Melding Gnawa music, spiritual jazz, and hip hop groove with that of Middle Eastern and African influence, hear the sound of bassist Shay Hazan. Followed by the swoony soul of Kelis. Before a new track by London cellist, singer songwriter, Midori Jaeger.
Fracture slows down on his celebration of pirate radio culture. Which is followed by a new track from Glenn Donaldson’s indie pop band, The Reds, Pinks, and Purples.
Things get weird in folk with Sweden’s Sara Parkman, and a track from her upcoming new record, featuring fiddle player and folk singer Tuva Syvertsen.
Get a taste of the excellent Swiss group Aga Khan Master Musicians, with a cut from their debut record from 2023, which draws on music from central Asia, China, and SWANA.
US drummer, producer and rapper Kassa Overall gets involved on a track from last year for Emma-Jean Thackray’s album Weirdo.
You’ve the the King of Timbales, Tito Puente. That’s followed by a new piece from the New York pianist Marco Benvento, ahead of his new record.
I dig in 1996 with some from LTJ Bukem’s label Looking Good Records, and a pre-breaks era track by Ils, under the name Axis. And then go back a few more years to 1991 and that rave anthem from Zero B. There’s the electro funk of the Dutch DJ Overdose. Spanish electro and IDM producer Annie Hall. And two brand new tracks, back to back. Firstly by Clark, and secondly another cut from the upcoming new solo record by Speedy J.
There’s the slide guitar perfection of villagerrr, and the newly released extended version of a track first heard last year on Oneohtrix Point Never’s exceptional record Tranquilizer.
We go for some Norwegian post-hardcore from Hammok, before the deeply beautiful sounds of Los Angeles’ Angelo De Augustine . Closing out on a track featuring two of my favourite electronic production outfits, Hybrid, and Way Out West.
Have yourself a wonderful day.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
