Featured Guest
Starting as a solo cassette tape manipulation project by Matt Cargill, Sly has expanded to incorporate layers of electronics and live drums. Sometimes with saxophones. Or in Liverpool recently at the inaugural edition of local festival Outer Waves, violin. The band sit somewhere between noise, free jazz, and all out drum warfare.
Cargill says
imagine Boredoms soundtracking an experimental noir thriller and you might be getting close
They’ve shared the floor with the likes of Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, Dälek, and Swans. You get the idea. Moon Is Doom Backwards, their latest record, is available through UK charitable label Human Worth. Sly and the Family Drone are a band best experienced live. It’s hard to explain the catharsis they as a band and you as a witness go through. In place of that, Cargill has put together a mixtape of some of their music, and that of others.
They’ve some UK shows coming up this summer, including at New River Studios in London, on June 6. At The Holloway in Norwich, on July 25. And At No90 Hackney Wick, back in London, on July 26.
