Larry Crywater – Bounce Recursion Mixes [Self Released]
Larry Crywater turns house music on its head for Bounce Recursions, a great set of mixes backing it up, with BAT bringing a massive 2 part mix to the table that just floors me every time.
Jeremy Bible – Collisions [Self Released]
Serious sound designs and abstractions from Jeremy Bible, digitally processed field recordings and jarring jump cuts, this is a really good headphone workout.
Maurices Hotel Death – Cycle Gamma [Self Released]
Two long form noise workouts from somebody who has appeared on this chart already – heady musique concrete extended versions of an improvised track that became a live performance.
Decimus – Decimus 10 [Further Records]
More psychedelic noise, this time from Decimus who is now up to volume 10 of a proposed 12 volume set, strongly recommended if you picked up his Glass Tetany album on NNA Tapes earlier this year.
Mika Vainio – Kilo [Blast First Petite]
I was really looking forward to this album after seeing Mika perform recently in London. This is the best of his recent albums for me, bass heavy solid beats, perfect.
Red Stars Over Tokyo – Melody Attack Remixes [Testtoon Records]
Machinefabriek and Vindicatrix bring forth remixes for Red Stars that are polar opposites. Machinefabriek turns in a stunning 17 minute glacial ambient piece, while Vidicatrix turns in 2 kickdrum heavy dancefloor workouts.
Yves De May – Metrics [Opal Tapes]
Metrics is just about the best thing that Opal Tapes have put out so far this year, and it’s a label I love. The sounds on this EP are like no others. This has to be heard. It’s so alien and yet familiar.
Marina Rosenfield – P.A. / Hard Love [Room 40]
Electronic drone tones, cello and a Jamaican MC. This on paper just does not work, but this is 2013, the year when anything can happen. Try it.
Sagat – Satellite [Vlek Records]
Abstracted white noise creating beautiful rhythms, synths and kicks, what could possibly go wrong. Ten Steps Removed is the one for me, serious futures.
Rashad Becker – Traditional Music of Notional Species Vol. I [PAN]
Lets finish with something that is way out there. This album has to be heard to be believed .Once again PAN prove they really know outsider music. It’s hard to believe all of these sounds come from a synth – it’s like listening in to a strange alien language at times.
