Episode 106
January 29, 2026

We start in Detroit with Carl Craig who gets reworked by both Benedikt Frey and composer Francesco Tristano. Hear the blissful sounds of Barbara Braccini’s ambient project Malibu, and Russian guitarist and composer Max Ananyev.

Plus Johannes Heil, Gotye, and even rock bassist Flea. With a track from his debut solo jazz record, featuring none other than Thom Yorke.

Breakbeat wise there’s cuts from Skee Mask, Naibu, DJ Trace, and James Welsh. Boards of Canada make their umpteenth appearance. Disco queen Gwen Guthrie gets reworked by Larry Levan. We bop along to Tom Tom Club, Delroy Edwards, and the late 70s post punk of The Sound.

In the jazz section, in addition to Flea, there’s a new piece from Aaron Shaw, alongside the mid 70s post-bop jazz funk of Cannonball Adderley.

As if that wasn’t enough – there’s music from Gorillaz, Elliott Smith, SOPHIE, Suicide, DOOM’s Viktor Vaughn, and Sly & Robbie’s superb dub version of Grace Jones’s cover of the Chrissie Hynde penned Pretenders track Private Life.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.

The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
