Easing in with the lush dub tech of Lithuania’s Grad U, we float past the Liz Fraser voiced Sun’s Signature, and the deep dubstep of Elemental, into the melodic Detroit sound of DJ Bone.
Chicago’s Robert Owen lends his iconic voice to Coldcut. Machinedrum ups the tempo with a cut from his LP Vapor City. All before we wind down with the Ethiopian groove of Mulatu Astatke.
MF Doom lays it out with The Herbaliser. You’ve Team Doyobi of Manchester ‘s SKAM. And, Nigerian highlife fusion duo The Cavemen. There’s a recent track from Amon Tobin’s hip-hop aligned project Two Fingers. Two cuts from the US rap label Ruff Ryders. ODESZA remixing the soundtrack work of Theodore Shapiro. You’ll hear the wholesome jazz beats of Mr Scruff, as well as classic Basement Jaxx, featuring the late Slarta John.
Chappell Roan divides listeners with her sugary pop. You’ve pop titans Pet Shop Boys. Plus, peak At The Drive-In, and Pixies. There’s something from the brand new Osees album. The cold wave of Boy Harsher. The ethereal vocal talent of Ireland’s Maria Somerville. And the shoegaze drift of a track from No Joy’s superb new album. Not forgetting a 1983 classic from Talking Heads.
All that, this week, on Mornings with Darkfloor.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.
The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
