Episode 102
December 4, 2025

Starting at the beginning, the Brooklyn indie rock band Beach Fossils greet you. From there, we go deep into the ambient float with tracks from Manuel Göttsching’s solo project Ashra. Canada’s Loscil. And, another Brooklyn based outfit, the duo Disiniblud. Their self titled debut is a great record. There are a lot of great records on this show. This episode, no exception.

Right, it’s always a good time for some jazz, and this week, one of the greats, Thelonious Monk, makes another appearance. Hear a track nearly lost due to Somalia’s two decade civil war. The dream pop of James K – another contender for one of the best albums of the year. Followed by 10cc doing their art rock, pop rock thing back in 1977.

There’s a track from the Ari-Up and Adrian Sherwood early 80s dub project New Age Steppers. And, one of Steve Cropper’s greatest tracks, who died this week, with Booker T, and The M.G.’s. You’ll know the track.

Next, a triple hit of Sly & Robbie produced dub reggae. A listener suggestion of Japanese dub band Fishmans. Thanks out to Aaron for the pick. There’s a track from the East meets West, Aussie trio Glass Beams. Plus, the Bee Gees sampling Libyan musician Najib Alhoush.

K-Lone proves there is house music I really like, with a cut from his new album on New York imprint Incienso. Unexpectantly there’s a Fred Again track I not only like, but play. Helped by the fact it features guests Amyl and The Sniffers. I know right.

There’s a double dose of Honey Dijon. First with Cakes Da Killa, and a hip house banger. Then with her Jamie xx guest feature on last year’s fantastic LP, In Waves. I’m looking forward to catching Honey play this weekend at Manchester’s Homobloc.

Just a few more left, including No Joy. Who again, has put out one of the best albums of the year. Maybe. I think so. A Radiohead track you’ve probably not heard in time. And to close, a 1991 remix by Moby of the dons of bleep, LFO.

Each week Mx Darkfloor soundtracks your morning, setting you up for the day. Drawing on many styles and genres. From deep drone, ambient, and dub, through to jazz, grunge, jungle, and breaks. There’s side quests into downtempo, trip-hop, and hip-hop. As well as approachable experimental sound, African rhythms, and Asian beats. To folk, no wave, shoegaze, psych, and fuzzy sludge.

The takeaway is you never know what they’ll play, but it’ll be day friendly, good music.
