Ruby My Dear – Ginkgo EP

The 10th release for the commercial arm of the fruitful label Acroplane is on the horizon, as often with their releases it’s a new name to these ears, but again, as often with their releases, one that really grabbed my interest from the off.

Ruby My Dear is a French producer, whose name, I’m going to step out a limb here, is I believe in homage to the track of the same name by the great Thelonious Monk. Seems I’m behind the times with Ruby My Dear as Braincore describe him thus

a well renowned master of melodic, intricate breakcore. His tunes whip up a frenzy of delicate leads and rinsing grooves that will get everyone moving to his very unique beat.

Ginkgo, a 5 track release answers pretty conclusively to that calling. Playful, creative sampling and when they let loose, thundering breakcore that gets the arse shaking. Of the tracks there are 2 tracks standing out for me; namely Gherkin to Chlorine and Inek. Both are sure to find their way into my setlists for the upcoming months. The promotional blurb accompanying the copy I was sent mentions this being the 2nd release of the year for Ruby, the first being Dada Twist on Peace Off. Guess what I’m going to check out?
