Recently shared again (at full force 320kbps no less) by the Birmingham techno don Surgeon. This is his two hour DJ set at Werk from some 9 years ago. Quite possibly one of the best recordings from a stupidly consistent DJ and producer.

This ain’t your typical serious techno session neither, oh no. This is a full on blast into classics of the acid, electro and IDM realms and beyond. Now Surgeon, it has to be said, always slips in the more electronica bits and piece here and there. Taking his set and sound into new areas with different rhythms always underpinned and structured around the thudding kick that holds dancefloor techno together. Live at Werk, London is that and more.

The night in question was the Werk Discs label launch night and Surgeon was joined by label head Actress, Ben Codec, Format .K and Po-Ski.

A mix that starts with Kraftwerk, slips into the British Murder Boys by track 3 before it glides into Carl Craig remixing Dave Angel is a session you know is going to be a good one. Grooverider remixing The Stone Roses; enough Aphex Twin to start a record store; the always intense Whitehouse (a Surgeon fave and where I first heard the brutal savagery of William Bennett at his most visceral); Nitzer Ebb, Inner City, Humanoid, Model 500, George Clinton, Monolake and more.

Consider this mix essential homework. Surgeon says:
